The owner claims “the bike only has 8604 miles on it so the engine is rock solid” and the only thing it needs is a new paintjob. How’s that for a way to make it suit your taste?

KTM FREERIDE

Following an earlier leak concerning their 2011 Freeride bikes, KTM releases the first images and press release for their all-new EVs that are scheduled for production a year and a half from now.

As initially seen, the two bikes share the same platform – delta box frame with self-supporting subframe – and lithium ion battery, all while weighing in at 198.4lbs. The Austrian firm claims performances similar to those of a 125cc supermoto/motocross internal combustion bike.

From the two, the supermoto bike will be street legal, while the MX one will keep all the fun on the track. The Freeride bikes will make their debut in Europe for the equivalent of $14,585, while riders in the US should “comply” with the much more competitive Zero Motorcycles. The dices have been thrown in what the 2010 MotoGP season is concerned, so Italian design guru Oberdan Bezzi comes with a plan for both the 2011 Ducati racing team and Valentino Rossi and his latest sketch pretty much says it all.

Obiboi hopes for a 100% Italian racing team, so he revives the iconic Martini Ducati livery on a Ducati Desmosedici and hopes The Doctor will master this for many seasons to come, starting with the 2011 one. Although the chances for the designer’s dream to come true are small, Rossi hasn’t confirmed or infirmed his possible switch to Ducati in 2011.

Oberdan Bezzi describes the 2011 Martini Ducati MotoGP of his blog with the following words: “would be the result of a favorable astral conjunction, a real emergency room! Sponsor a mythical (Martini) with great tradition in the engine high-level entrant into starring in the World Championship, the renewed desire to challenge a champion without peer (Valentino Rossi) and the technical competence of a prestigious brand and hungry for glory (DUCATI)! The ingredients of a dream everything ITALIAN!”

Taurus concept vehicle for cities

Until we’ll be able to fly our way around the cities, designers will be coming up with interesting solutions for our urban transportation needs and one of them is precisely the Taurus concept vehicle.

Designed by Erik Lanuza, the bike is more like a Segway you sit down on and works on the same principle. This means the self balancing vehicle, which features sufficient safety mechanisms, responds to the rider’s front-rear body posture in order to move forward and stop, while direction is changed using the bull-like handles.

Light, rather small and easy to park, the Taurus looks like it can make life easier in the city, but also cleaner as it would be powered by zero emissions electric motors, making it eco-friendly also.

The reason why these sorts of concept vehicles are being released is to test the public. So, would you ride such a think if it would see production?

Being a Polaris brand in full growth, Victory needs to revise their models as thorough and as often as possible in order to maintain their ascendant trend, but the thing is that their models are pretty good already and so we often end up talking about some new color schemes and that’s pretty much it. But this is not the case because Victory’s modern American muscle bike, the Hammer, is in for redefining its class. With three models available (the Hammer, Hammer S and Hammer 8-Ball) and 97 horsepower, 113 foot-pounds of torque, no bad boy will want to stay away from any of these models for too long.

The tricked out Buell 1125R prototype by Magpul Ronin seems to have generated positive feedback in such a measure that Magpul went further on and refined it with the limited production goal in mind.

The main features setting the Magpul Ronin apart from a standard Buell 1125R are designed in-house and consist in girder front suspension, linkage fork with Penske coil-over monoshock, and front mounted radiator, all contouring a different approach towards the streetfighter style and we happen to like it very much. Funky Harley-Davidson Night Road Special

Spanish fashion designer Custo Dalmau has adapted the colorful look of his signature t-shirts on this Harley-Davidson Night Road Special modified by Spanish bike builder Ferry Clot. Their combined goal was to achieve a dragster-like stance and a funky paintjob on top for what they call the “Animals in the Wild” project.

The unique bike will be auctioned for charity by Harley-Davidson Spain and the money obtained will be directed to the San Juan de Dios Foundation in Barcelona, who works on aid and development in the African country of Sierra Leone.

Colin Fruze is a 30-year-old British plumber and scooter rider who, sick and tired of drivers cutting him up, decided to accessorize his shiny red scooter with a flamethrower that is capable of firing 12ft flames.

The thing fires up with a single touch of a button on the handlebar, making this the closest thing to a Bond scooter as the Brit himself admits ’It’s a lot of fun and firing the flames makes me feel like James Bond.’

Sadly for Colin, the unique accessory makes his scooter a bit illegal, but at least he won’t be able to take revenge on ignorant drivers by setting their cars on fire.

Leak: 2010 KTM Freeride eBikes

Although the Austrians from KTM have tried to keep a low profile in what their all-new Freeride electric motorcycles are concerned, German magazine Das Motorrad published the first leaked pictures of the much-awaited KTMs. Damn, why can’t we feel sorry about this?

Expected to retail for approximately $13,500 (or just under €10,000), both bikes rely on 30bhp and 33lb/ft of torque while weighing in at 198.4lbs. Hmm, that cannot be impressive. At least the 2.5kWh lithium-ion battery pack is capable to keep the good stuff coming for around 1.5-hours.

One a supermoto and the other an enduro, both bikes feature what appears to be a tubular steel frame.

This pretty much blows KTM’s element of surprise, but at least we can see the Austrian company entering confidently into a totally new segment mainly dominated by Zero Motorcycles in the United States.

Greymouth, a very special way to Triumph

Although the paintjob on this café racer makes it look like a Norton, this is actually a very special Triumph Thruxton that pulled the lucky card when ending up in the hands of Austrian Triumph dealer Jurgen Schnaller. The ‘Greymouth’, as it is called, gets upgraded engine and chassis components enhancing the sporty side of the already great British bike.

The engine, which now features high compression pistons, ported and polished head and high lift camshafts while being fed through new flat side Keihin carbs and fitted with a Raask exhaust, is claimed to be 26bhp more powerful than on the stock bike. On the chassis side, the upgraded Wilbers front and rear suspensions are meant to cope with the extra performance.

You decide if the Schnaller Thruxton is worth €18000 ($24,340) as we can’t help but wonder how it feels when ridden.

Designer Vicky Petihovski is the brains behind this lawnmower scooter concept that we find rather interesting for bringing in the satisfaction factor where before it was just boring work with a conventional lawnmower.

The ride-on mower is powered by a small electric motor, which also activates the grass-cutting blades, so users can enjoy their lawn ride and get the chore done with the least of effort. It sure beats a conventional lawnmower, but we have a hunch this thing requires several recharges until the whole garden is picnic-ready.

Hornet, the single-wheeled superbike concept!

Remember the Yamaha monocycle concept and the Rollersphere? This is kind of the same thing only that the rider isn’t protected by the elements like in the previously mentioned cases. What makes the Hornet, as it is called, special is the fact that it is the closest concept to a one-wheel superbike and this turned it into winner of the VACC competition.

Designed by Liam Ferguson, the Hornet single-wheeled concept superbike is powered by two in-wheel hydrogen fuel-cell six-phase Neodymium-Iron (Nd-Fe) electric motors developing a claimed 74 hp. Also considering its 388 lbs weight and that of the rider’s, the listed top speed is of 146 mph.

But this concept has its fair share of ingenuity too. For instance, it balances gyroscopically when parked thanks to two side-by-side small wheels and tilts forward to run on the central wheel when accelerated. Also, the bike features a series of computers that examine data such as attitude and rider input in order to always offer stability regardless of rider weight and vehicle momentum.

Although the basic working principle is like that of the Segway, we have to admit this is a much better scenario imagined as the single wheel (which is actually made out of two parallel wheels) allows for extreme slow speed maneuverability. Ok, so why would you list an unrealistic top speed in this case?

BMW S1000RR by AC Schnitzer

German BMW tuner AC Schnitzer finally got its hands on the S1000RR and turned it into a much better daily use superbike. That’s right. It may be hard to believe, but their approach aims towards comfort and practicability simply because the bike doesn’t need any upgrades on the performance side.

So, what’s new on it? Take the adjustable handlebars and yoke for instance. They’re straight and feature an adjustable clamp, definitely not an everyday fitment on a bike like this. Other new features on the AC Schnitzer S1000RR are the brake and clutch levers, a carbon fiber exhaust silencer, crash bungs, performance air-filter and a numberplate hanger, all leaving a distinct mark on the already kind of unique bike.

Honda barely introduced their latest big four model, the CB1100 and Japanese tuner Mugen has already released a package of bits and pieces for future owners to easily turn their nakeds into café racers worthy of the 1970s.

The café racer kit is mainly composed from a silver headlamp cowl and a racy looking seat, while the matt black fenders and sports exhausts are just the right touches to help set this bike further apart from the naked crowd and closer to the café racer one. There’s a reason why motorcycles have sidestands, but it looks like the rider of this one neglects that aspect. This is definitely NOT the way to park your motorcycle unless you’re a butcher, of course.

Obviously, this is the result of good photoshop skills combined with too much free time, but the idea to line up a red bike next to a several cow corpses is just sinister.

Great Britain gets Suzuki GSX-R600 special edition

In 2010, Suzuki celebrates 25 years of successfully producing the GSX-R series, so they have released a special edition GSX-R600 featuring a paintjob that is reminiscent of the 1999 factory World Superbike racing bike, but also a Yoshimura exhaust, top yoke plaque and an authenticity certificate.

Only 25 anniversary models will be made and they are destined for the Britain market at the price of £8799 ($13,283). The bike will be first seen in public at the Carole Nash MCN Scottish motorcycle show this weekend and reservations start on the 1st of April. Stockholm dealer unboxes a Honda NR750 and RC30 for posterity

Bengt Gunnarson, the owner of MC-Varuhus (Motorcycle Warehouse) dealership in Stockholm has just unveiled two icons for the motorcycle industry, a Honda NR750 and RC30, which he kept intact in the basement for around two decades.

One from 1989 and the other from 1992, the bikes are both part of limited runs that Honda offered as technological showpieces (NR750) and homologated race versions built by HRC for World Superbike (RC30).

Unboxing the two bikes now is like going back in time and experiencing that same thrill fueled by the fact you’re getting your hands on the best there is out there. Although Honda evolved A LOT since these bikes were produced, the two look just marvelous and they will be displayed in the dealership’s showroom for the posterity. It is totally worth seeing the video after the break.

BMW says no to naked S1000RR

Since BMW introduced the S1000RR less than a year ago, the motorcycle press began to speculate about the possible half-faired or naked models that could be derived from what has meanwhile become the best superbike out there.

We even brought you the BMW R1000RS and S1000RS concepts by Oberdan Bezzi, but according to an official release, BMW doesn’t yet have other plans for the S1000RR platform as spokesman Scott Grimsdall said: “We’re concentrating on the launch of the S1000RR and have no plans to expand the S range.”

While this is sad news for buyers of such models and good news for the current kings of 1000cc sport-touring and naked classes, we reckon BMW are just playing it safe for now and will get their fair share of the market after all.

BMW tuner Van Harten Performance from Holand recently got its hands on a brand new BMW S1000RR superbike and, apart from turning it into what appears to be a carbon fiber edition, it can also brag about being the first to take the S1000RR beyond the 200bhp barrier. And I’m not so sure you’ll believe us when saying they managed to squeeze 210bhp out of German inline-four by only adding a four-in-one Akrapovic exhaust system. But it is the truth and it really shows this bike’s tuning potential.

After enlarging their 2009 SportClassic range with the GT1000 Touring, Ducati gets the bike rid of its accessories, meaning the GT1000 roadster is the only classic bike featuring modern engineering you’ll find in 2010’s lineup. Reminiscent of the ‘70s, the bike addresses to those in love of the good old days when nakeds featured spoked wheels with classy fenders and a lot of chrome. And the fact that the 2010 model year also brings reliability on the scene couldn’t make this package better.

Italian company Benelli is yet to launch their 2ue 756 naked bike and conational Oberdan Bezzi has already imagined a flat-track ready version of the street-oriented bike and sees it competing in US flat track competitions. The Benelli 2 TechnoTracker would get the exact same engine as on the model still struggling towards production, meaning a 756cc parallel twin that is expected to deliver somewhere in between 90-100hp.

Engine performance aside, the aggressive design is most likely what determined Obiboi to get an early start with this one and his flat-track version looks ready to start its mud life, but Benelli would first have to sort things out with their own projects and then consider the design guru’s indeed cool racing concept bike. Never gonna happen? I say who knows…

Ex-Buell engineer heads towards Zero Motorcycles

Electric bike manufacturers such as Zero Motorcycles are just revving up on their ascendant market path and it order for them to achieve high standards, demands head towards highly experienced engineers with innovative ideas to make their green bikes stand out from all points of view.

What we’re talking about here is a happy case as Abe Askenazi, who worked as Vice President of Engineering for Buell in the last 14 years and who was free of contract after Harley-Davidson annihilated Buells from the production line, is now seeing his way towards Zero Motorcycles.

Ducati launched the new Monster 1100 and the 1100S version in a smart move that increased the Monster lineup to three members (if you count the Monster 696), each one offering a new kind of excitement. This was the first out of ten new models that Ducati announced to launch until 2010.

Jean François Vicente of Vicente Design has just come up with a rather interesting kick-started single-cylinder custom bike concept that he calls the EFI SR400 Board Tracker. This is definitely a case of “looks beat performance” as the designer concentrated on delivering a low and sleek bike that proposes a closer rider-motorcycle communion by bringing it all down to the bare necessities such as the two large wheels, a motor and a bar to hold on to.

The bike would be based on the Yamaha SR400 and SR500 and it may look vintage but it has its fair share of ingenious design features. For instance, the seat and gas tank are made of the same hydroformed titanium sheets and also act as a beam girder for the frame, the thing has a carbon girder fork and also a hydroformed underslung exhaust.

You may have a hard time spotting it, but this thing does has a hard tail frame, while the perimeter disk brakes are the modern touch the EFI SR400 Board Tracker needs in order to stand out as an overall nice blend of style and performance (not necessarily horsepower).

The ck Calvin Klein Spring 2010 campaign ads have just been launched and we’re surprised to see the fashion brand introducing their own idea of a biker look with the help of stylist Karl Temper and photographer Craig McDean.

The brand’s fifth campaign approaches minimalistic styles that have long characterized CK, but the “gear” is rather girly, so I guess that’s why we’re seeing the custom-made bike giving the tone of the action in the pics.

American freestyle rider and daredevil Seth Enslow is now the new record holder for the world’s longest jump on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle after jumping an impressive 183.7 feet (56m) at Sydney’s Barangaroo. This sets his jump 18 feet (5,4m) further than his predecessor’s (Bubba Blackwell) record.

But there’s also a funny part about this event. Because the viewing media missed the first jump, Enslow had to take the jump twice and that’s when he smashed his family jewels so hard on the gas tank that it managed to crack the paint. He was fine in the end, but we reckon he won’t have any grandkids to tell his tales to.

Suzuki Gladius streetfighter by Oberdan Bezzi

Suzuki introduced their all-new middleweight Gladius in 2009 and didn’t change it in any way for this year, but here comes a rendering showing a quite possible way to turn the funky Suzuki naked bike into a presence much strongly felt wherever ridden. The design was done by Oberdan Bezzi, Italy’s most renown motorcycle designer, and it aims towards a more aggressive look.

If we were daring, which we can become, we would say this concept could easily pass as a streetfighter, but as much as we look at it, we cannot erase the fairly dull image of the model currently being produced. That’s the sad part because with his sketch, Obiboi is trying to drift the Suzuki Gladius away from its original look and make it worthy of an “S” completing the name.

Although the designer doesn’t mention anything about a possible engine upgrade, we think this is a rather simple way of refreshing the Gladius look and increase figures on the sales charts in years to come.

If the 2010 Triumph Rocket III Roadster doesn’t lead the power cruiser class then I don’t know what does. Surprisingly easy to maneuver, great performing, and extremely good looking, the British largest capacity production motorcycle is here to stay and get even better, just as it does this year.

While cruisers such as the America and the Speedmaster were revamped this late years with a fuel injection system ensuring that Euro 3 regulations are met, the Rocket III models are found in the situation of saying “been there, done that” and continue getting more power out of the monstrously big inline-triple, while the whole machine is now claimed to be a much better performer. We’ll see about that after the jump.

We think this looks quite striking and might catch on to the motorcycle industry as well, but in the end it’s all up to the Hinckley-based company to make their move as result of feedback from fans.

Custom Yamaha R1 Rossi Edition to go up for charity auction

The Yamaha R1 Rossi Edition is a one-off custom motorcycle that will go up for charity auction right after its customizers “give it wide exposure.” The bike was created by a team led by Don Emde, 1972 Daytona 200 winner and founder of US based fundraiser Friends of Riders for Health, to raise money for the official MotoGP charity.

It was an expensive project achieved using aftermarket parts supplied by different manufacturers such as Rolands Sands (the aluminum wheels), Akrapovic (the Evolution exhaust system) and Ohlins (the FGRT808 front suspension and TTX rear).

Valentino Rossi’s AGV ‘Five Continents’ graphics done by Pole Position Racing Service in Italy make it a “Rossi bike” and all these changes bring it much closer to the race track rather than the street but, just for the record, The Doctor’s R1 is also street legal.

Yamaha FZ8 Fazer

Yamaha has just unveiled an all-new motorcycle joining their supersport family, the FZ8 or the Fazer 800, as it will be called in Europe. A middleweight model powered by a 799cc inline-four engine, the 2010 Yamaha FZ8 has come to replace the FZ6 model and it does it in the characteristic style of the series, meaning you get a half fairing and the bike finds itself positioned on the thin line between track-gained performance and a comfortable riding position.

We feel sorry for the FZ6 – which we happen to like a lot – but can’t wait to take the FZ8 for a spin. That will actually take a while as full information about the bike will be released on March 12. We will upgrade this post as soon as new info becomes available so stay tuned.

Triumph revamps the 2010 Bonneville lineup for the model’s 50th anniversary and we dare saying from the very beginning that it is their best one yet. The facts backing this affirmation up consist in both the presence of a fuel injection system for the legendary powerplant as well as that of three different models apart from the T100 one.

Although the British motorcycle manufacturer was keen on retaining the original 1960s look of the Bonneville, the standard and SE models are both modern interpretations of their old timer’s sibling and, of course, they feature the same engine.
