BMW G650 GS

BMW Motorrad has just revealed the new G 650 GS, a new single-cylinder enduro that adds a cheeky, light, and adventurous figure. The G650 GS is powered by a 652 cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine with a double overhead camshafts engine that develops 48 HP at 6500 rpm and 60 Nm at 5000 rpm. BMW is also offering a detuned version that develops only 34 HP at 6500 rpm and 47 Nm at 4500 rpm.

The body of the new G 650 GS was completely redesigned. The front section, in particular, makes the single-cylinder enduro light, sporty, and dynamic. The asymmetrical headlamp and the self steering front wheel cover give the G 650 GS its look of absolute independence.

A clear design of lines, the targeted use of colored areas and all black plastic parts uphold the visual impression of a robust enduro outfit. The overall impression of sportiness is boosted further by the engine, exhaust covers, frame, swinging arm, and slide tubes, which are all black, contrasting with the plain colors of aura white and orange-red as well as the matching two-tone seats.

KTM 990 Adventure Dakar

KTM is set to unveil at this year’s EICMA Show a new motorcycle that will confirm the German maker’s domination at "The Dakar rally". Called 990 Adventure Dakar the new motorcycle is not however a replacement for the current KTM 450 Rally and will not be raced in Argentina and Chile, but it does show that KTM is indeed a maker that can do amazing things.

The 990 Adventure Dakar will feature a blue and orange paint, Dakar graphics, standard engine protection bars and much more. We do not have any details on the bike’s specifications yet, but considering the new Dakar rally regulation require a 450cc engine, expect nothing else from KTM.

Stay with us, we’ll have full details for you next week when EICMA Show begins. KTM announced a few other goodies for this year show, including the 450 Rally that will indeed compete in both Argentina and Chile rally.

Honda CBR250R

Honda Motorcycle has unveiled today the new 2011 CBR250R sport bike. It is a sporty, fun, lightweight and affordable motorcycle aimed for those entering the sport of motorcycling. "The CBR250R is specifically aimed at new riders, yet it’s packed full of high-tech features and offers great performance, all in a lightweight, affordable package. This new model expands another segment of the market for Honda buyers."

The new CBR250R is powered by an extremely efficient 249cc liquid-cooled single cylinder engine that features a sophisticated four-valve DOHC cylinder head, engine counter balancer, and fuel injection—this dependable and lightweight machine delivers nimble handling, a broad spread of easily accessible power and low operating costs all in one. The motorcycle weights only 359 lbs.

It will be offered in standard and ABS version and in Metallic Black and Red/Silver exterior colors. Sales will begin in the spring of 2011.

Honda Shows Off The New VFR Adventure Concept

Milan, Italy may be known for its high-end clothing shops and expensive super cars, but Honda is planning something completely new for the city. The Japanese manufacturer is planning on unveiling eight new bikes, and we have our first hunch on at least one of those machines.

Here we have the VFR Adventure Concept, a 1200cc monster designed for people who like speed and long rides on the interstate highways. The new Honda is similar to the Ducati Multistrada.

It seems that the new VFR will get a higher stance over the current model with more ground clearance. Although, there isn’t much besides that, as Honda has been fairly sneaky with this new machine. We have to wonder if we will see it in the United States, but sports bike fans will just have to wait and see.

The new VFR should be going on sale around 2012 or later.

Triumph Tiger 800

Triuph has unveiled the first details on the 2011 Tiger 800, offered in both road and off-rod versions, last one called XC. The last one will be distinguished by specia tires, 21-inch front wheel and extended front mudguard. The standard version will be offered with 19-inch front wheel and non-tubed tires.

For 2011 Triumph will be powered by a stroked out version of the Triumph Daytona 675. The 800 cc engine will deliver a few lees horse power than in the Dayton model (where it delivers 124bhp and 53lb/ft). SO, with a total weight of 440lbs and a power of aprox. 110 HP, the Triumph 800 will be lighter and a little more powerful than the BMW F800GS.

The 2011 800 will also be offered with a steel tube frame, a beefier bash guard and an Arrow exhaust.

No words yet on how much the motorcycle will cost or when it will go on sale.

Ducati Diavel

After months of speculation and spy photography the long wait is almost over, the Diavel will make its first public appearance at the EICMA International Motorcycle Show in Milan 2-7 November.

Officially announcing the new model’s name ahead of the official presentation, the famous Italian manufacturer is about to turn another dream into reality, using the local Bolognese dialect word for “devil” in naming their new model Diavel – pronounced Dee-ah-vel.

The idea for the name was born early in the development process of the bike, when the prototype was assembled and wheeled out in front of a group of Ducati engineers and technicians for the first time. One person looking from the rear of the bike saw its silhouette and exclaimed in Bolognese dialect: “Ignurnt comm’ al diavel!” Meaning: “Evil, like the devil!”

BMW K 1600 GT and K 1600 GTL

BMW has unveiled today the new K 1600 GT and K 1600 GTL. motorcycles that come with a supreme, impressive and equally distinctive appearance, creating a desire to travel at first sight.

The two models are powered by a new 6-cylinder in-line engine that develops a total of 160 HP and a maximum torque of 175 NM. The rider of the K 1600 models has three different engine characteristics directly available at the press of a button at the right-hand end of the handlebars so as to be able to adapt to different uses such as touring on the road, riding on wet surfaces and sporty, dynamic motorcycling - the modes "Rain", "Road" and "Dynamic".

The K 1600 GT is has a very extensive range of standard features ex works consisting of xenon headlamps, heated grips and seat, cruise control and on-board computer. In the K 1600 GT, the body colours of Light Grey metallic and Vermilion Red metallic create a fascinating contrast with the frame and wheels in Ostra Grey and the engine in Platinum metallic matte.

Rossi May Be Out For MotoGP's Last Two Races

Fans of popular MotoGP racer Valentino Rossi might not get to see him in action at the last two rounds of the 2010 MotoGP season. Apparently, Rossi has to undergo surgery in order to treat a shoulder injury he received in an accident last April 15th while doing motocross training in Pesaro Italy. The injury came just four days after he won the the first race of the season in Qatar. Rossi still managed to race for the second round in Jerez, Spain, placing third overall. Teammate Jorge Lorenzo won first place in that round.

Unfortunately for Rossi, this accident wasn’t the only one that would end up affecting him during this racing season. Rossi ended up being involved in another accident just two months after the first one when he was practicing in Mugello for the Italian Grand Prix. He suffered a broken leg and subsequently missed that race and the next three races that followed. It was the first time in his career that he was not able to start for an event.

Ducati previews the 2011 range

With an impressive exhibition presence of approximately 400m2, stand D-040 in hall 8 of Cologne’s INTERMOT 2010 show now plays host to exciting new arrivals in the Superbike family in addition to new colours and updates for both the Streetfighter and Monster range. With new models, accessories and apparel, the Italian motorcycle manufacturer from Bologna is showing a wide range of new 2011 products at this major international show.

“We decided to consolidate our presence here in Cologne because we believe in the importance of this exhibition event, which opens the European motor show season," stated Gabriele Del Torchio, President of Ducati Motor Holding, during the opening press conference. "Our presence at the show is proof of our commitment to customers in Germany and northern Europe, and underlines our aim to expand in Germany, which is the second most important market in Europe for Ducati. For this reason we decided to preview here some of the new products scheduled for 2011, such as the new additions to the Superbike family with the 848EVO and 1198 SP, and new liveries for the Monster and Streetfighter models.”

New Yamaha Motorcycle Parts

We do admit that the V-Max is an excellent bike, but as is true with every other motorcycle out there, a good bike can always be better. Casey Stoner Wins It For Ducati At Aragon

Ducati is definitely back in the competition, winning the Spanish leg of the 2010 MotoGP season. And they did it with an additional bonus too, bagging third place in the race. The race was held at the Motorland Aragon circuit in Aragon, Spain on September 19th.

Australian rider Casey Stoner was the hero of the hour for the Italian motorcycle manufacturer, beating hometown hero Dani Pedrosa to the checkered flag. Pedrosa came in a full five seconds behind Stoner in the finish. Completing the victory for Ducati is American Nicky Hayden, who came in third.

With the win, Stoner cut down Ducati’s losing streak in the current MotoGP season. Prior to his win, Ducati was able to get a second place finish at the United States Grand Prix held at Laguna Seca in Monterey, California. The second place finish also came courtesy of Stoner. However, Ducati still remains third in the manufacturer’s standings with 105 points.

Ducati Heading Out Of The Superbike Championships

Fans will probably be missing one of the most popular teams in the World Superbike Championships for 2011. This came about as Ducati announced last August 27th that they would not be fielding a factory team for next season’s races.

According to the statement released by Ducati, the reason they are pulling out of the superbike championships is because they want to focus more on technology development for their products. They also added that, in order to further develop the latest iteration of Ducati’s bikes, they will have to pull out the resources used to manage the factory team and divert them to the company’s research and development department.

In the statement, Ducati President Gabriele Del Torchio also thanked riders Noriyuki Haga and Michel Fabrizio for their participation in the team. Both Haga and Fabrizio had been with the team for almost two years.

However, according to some Superbike observers, there are still several other reasons for the Italian motorcycle maker’s pullout from the competition.

Aprilia Shiver 750

As the world’s fourth largest motorcycle manufacturer, Aprilia has been noted for creating first-class bikes that captivate any rider’s heart. And every year they have added unique motorcycle models to their huge collection.

In 2007, the company launched the Aprilia Shiver 750. This model, unfortunately, didn’t get the market’s attention successfully due to the Shiver’s not-so-good exterior reported by its importers. However in 2010, the Aprilia Shiver 750 seems to be taking a corner with some major improvements to the bike’s exterior. Many didn’t expect this, but the Shiver 750 has made it’s appearance more head-turning, and its specs more interesting. Aprilia has made changes to the motorcycle’s lower seats, brakes, sitting positions, wheels, and abs in the hopes of selling more units this year. And even though the Shiver has been given a new face and some major revisions, this 2-wheeled vehicle is still easy to ride.

MotoGP Pays Tribute To Shoya Tomizawa

September 5th of this year was a sad day for MotoGP fans all over the world. On this date, Technomag-CIP rider Shoya Tomizawa died after crashing into a corner in the Misano World Circuit in Italy. Tomizawa was only 19 at the time of the accident.

The young rider was competing in the inaugural San Marino Grand Prix race for the newly created Moto2 class. Tomizawa was approaching the Curvone corner on lap 12 when he lost control of his bike and was thrown onto the track. He was then hit by the the bikes of riders Scott Redding and Alex de Angelis, who were right behind him when the accident happened. Tomizawa was immediately rushed to the circuit’s medical center then to a hospital in nearby Rccione where he died due to severe cranial, thoracic, and abdominal trauma.

Last Sunday, two weeks after Tomizawa’s death, the MotoGP Paddock paid him a tribute in a special ceremony held at the Motorland Aragon circuit in Spain. The Technomag-CIP team rolled his bike onto the starting grid and a minute of silence followed, in his honor. Riders attending the tribute also placed the #48 (Tomizawa’s number) onto their uniforms, helmets, and bikes as a sign of respect. Tomizawa was laid to rest in his hometown of Asahi, Chiba in Japan on Sept. 15.

MotoGP also announced that the number 48 will be retired from the Moto2 races as one of the tributes to him. Furthermore, Tomizawa will be posthumously awarded the Michel Metraux trophy, given the best rider in the category. The award was given after Tomizawa’s fellow riders unanimously voted for him upon the suggestion of current Moto2 leader Tom Elias. His family will receive the trophy in the next Grand Prix in Japan this November.

Yamaha Unveils Its Lineup For 2011

When it comes to motorbikes, one of the most popular names to come up in everyone’s minds would probably be Yamaha. Indeed, the Japanese brand has, to a large extent, been closely associated with motorcycles (though, they are also known for their musical instruments). And it seems that Yamaha is bent on cementing on that one.

We say that because Yamaha has finally unveiled its lineup of bikes for next year. And looking at the list, it seems that this one is indeed a fierce roster. Colin Edwards Sticks With Yamaha

Yamaha fans everywhere can rejoice as Colin Edwards will be joining the team again for the 2011 MotoGP season. Edwards has confirmed that he has resigned for a new one year contract with his team Monster Yamaha Tech 3. The new contract is an extension of his current contract with the team.

The 36-year-old Edwards made the announcement after completing his 100th race at the Gran Premio A-Style de Aragon in Spain last Sunday. He joined the Yamaha team in 2008 and has since become one of the most prominent riders of the team. He had an outstanding stint with Yamaha last year, winning the top non factory rider award. Edwards started in the MotoGP circuit in 2003, riding for Aprilia.

Edwards is currently number 11 in the world rankings, with his best start at seventh position at Laguna Seca, Brno, and Misano. And despite having a disappointing 12th place finish in last Sunday’s race, he was still able to maintain his current position.

Yamaha Raptor 125

Okay, so not a lot of us get to see all terrain vehicles, or ATV’s, that often, as compared to motorbikes. But when you do get to see them on the streets, they are definitely going to be head turners. And this is more so the case if you get to watch them on the dirt track.

And some of the most striking ATV’s are perhaps those that come from the Yamaha Raptor line. These quad bikes have been around for quite some time now and are very popular for both off road and on road use. And with an all new line of vehicles for 2011, it seems that the company is bent on keeping its hold on the ATV market.

One of the new releases is the much awaited 2011 Yamaha Raptor 125. The Raptor 125 comes at the heels of the successful 2010 line, headlined by its bigger cousin, the Yamaha Raptor 700. And, while not as large as the 700, the 2011 Raptor does pack a good amount of features to satisfy your thirst for this kind of ride.

Philippaerts injured; Paulin selected for Motocross of Nations

David Philippaerts of Yamaha Monster Energy Motocross Team will be unable to race for the incoming 64th Motocross of Nations due to an injury he sustained while showing off raging speed during the 2nd Moto race. Apparently, Philippaerts twisted his right knee and was unable to complete the race securing a third position in the FIM MX1-GP World Championship on the factory YZ450FM. The rider immediately went back to his home in Milan for a medical check-up that revealed that, although it was not serious enough to need surgery, his knee would require adequate rest for a period of twenty days before the 2008 world champion could begin light cycling routines.

On the other hand, luck comes to Gautier Paulin as Team Yamaha chose him to represent France in the MX1 category with a YZ450FM. "While I am sorry for Christophe this is an exciting news for me and I am proud to represent France as part of a strong team. There is not much time to prepare but we are working hard now to get ready on the bike and be as fast as possible for Thunder Valley”, Paulin said.

Eugene Laverty signs up with Yamaha WSS team

Team Yamaha Sterilgarda seems to be geared up and well-prepared for the upcoming 2011 World Sportbike with the finalization of their line of superb riders competing for the much-awaited match. Along with MotoGP rider Marco Melandri fighting for the title, Yamaha has also enlisted World Supersport rider, Eugene Laverty, to ride for the team. For the 2011 season, the 24-year-old Irish rider, who was last year’s WSS runner-up, will ride Yamaha Sterilgarda’s YZF-R1 Superbike.

In 2009, Eugene Laverty was racing for Parkalgar Honda when he trailed Yamaha Sterilgarda rider, Cal Crutchlow, to finish in second place. Currently, Laverty trails Hannspree Ten Kate Honda’s Kenan Sofuoglu by 12 points in the 2010 World Supersport Championship. He currently holds seven wins this year in 11 races.

This isn’t Eugene Laverty’s first ride with Yamaha. The young rider was famous for greatly showing off at the 250cc MotoGP Championship while enjoying two wild card World Supersport rides in 2008 due to an injury sustained by Fabien Foret. Laverty was noted to be very impressive during those times by finishing third in his second outing at Vallelunga.
