Motorcycle robot concept NOT inspired by Terminator Bikes

Eric Brown, creator of this robot motorcycle concept claims: "I actually conceived of this before the Terminator bikes! Amazingly, I was thinking along the lines of the Terminator just the same and made the finish highly reflective as to reflect laser fire. Black chrome, much cooler than silver chrome. "

Extreme safety - the Babe Cage

Extreme safety - the Babe Cage

Being a loving and caring husband means more than just keeping the vow you’ve made in church on your wedding day. It involves the power to adapt your care and concern towards your life partner’s well being in different and sometimes spontaneous situations. So if you’re a motorcyclist and an ideal husband, it is very likely that you’re already using what is called the Babe Cage.

How was that saying?... “Prepare for the worst, expect for the best!” I believe it suits perfectly to this precise situation.

The Babe Cage (what kind of name is that, anyway?) is securely built around a cruiser’s bodywork so together with your passenger’s life, it also protects your motorcycle. The passenger gets an extra large backrest and even headrest while being safely belted to the cage (I guess there’s no point in having a safety cage if you’re going to fly tens of feet away from the bike in case of an accident). There is also a set of extra lights mounted around the cage so that traffic participants would be aware that you’re pretty much working with overdue gauge out there.

Aprilia RSV4 official racing colors

Aprilia has just presented the final graphic version of their RSV4 superbike that will debut in the World Superbike Championship this weekend. As seen, Aprilia makes an entry on the WSBK scene without the help of a main sponsor so the fairing displays the traditional colors of the Italian company, the most visible logos being RSV4 and Aprilia.

Recent test have shown that the new Italian V4 is capable of great performances and with the help of Shinya Nakano and Max Biaggi, the Noale house aims towards as much presences on the podium as possible.

We wish them the best of luck!

Did you ever happen to buy a motorcycle and feel that there’s something missing in what concerns your new acquisition? Something such as a….third wheel for example. It seems that this motorcycle enthusiast did and with incredible results. This is the Harley-Davidson V-Rod Trike, definitely a unique machine which satisfies the riding demands of those who simply can’t stick to the standard two-wheeled version.

2010 Ducati Multistrada new rendering

After revealing with courtesy of MCN the first spy shots featuring the all-new 2010 Ducati Multistrada, we get to see in the same way a proper computer interpretation of the bike that is meant to become THE alternative for the BMW R1200GS.

This is how the adventure-style Ducati will supposedly look when it will be shipped to dealers in 2010 and these lasts confirm it: "This is an accurate representation of what the bike looks like. I know I could sell loads of them this week if they were available."

Ducati plans are to present the new Multistrada at the Milan Motorcycle Show this November and start selling it at the beginning of 2010.

Remember the Harley-Davidson Sportster dressed up for the wild west? If not, this picture will surely remind you of it. Presenting to you the Motorcycle Mustang!

Featuring a massive V-twin engine developing precisely one horsepower, this beast only needs a flame paintjob, foamy rider and passenger seat, leather saddlebags as well as taillights and a fancy number plate just so that the town’s serif would allow you to cruise peacefully.

Ducati 999 S Full Carbon

Ducati 999 S Full Carbon

This mysterious looking motorcycle is the creation of German tuner Befaster and it not only attracts our attention with its unique look, but with an impressive power to weight ratio too: 1.88 horsepower for every kilo. This translates into a 170 hp engine, which, as the light weight, surely doesn’t come standard on the original Ducati bike.

The weight of the standard bike (186 kg) was reduced with 43 kg by installing a set of components made out of carbon fiber and titan instead of the original ones. Furthermore, the engine’s displacement was increased to 1.037 ccs, which explains the 170 hp.

Befaster actually plans to sell this motorcycle for €120.000. Is this hard to believe? Believe it!

Will Ducati build a V Rod competitor?

Will Ducati build a V Rod competitor?

We recently presented a rendering according to which the Triumph Rocket III could go RR and become the alternative for the Star VMAX and while that looked plausible, this Ducati concept designed by Luca Bar is simply mind blowing from where I’s sitting. Called D66, the Ducati custom motorcycle is so similar and yet totally different to the Harley-Davidson V Rod, it stands as the European alternative to a consecrated American muscle cruiser.

Now, the question is: would you consider buying this thing? Or let me rephrase that… Would you buy this thing over the V Rod if they would both cost pretty much the same?

Note that it allows for some serious customization.

Jet Bike of the Future

Jet Bike of the Future

It’s a well known and studied fact that man kind will be using individual forms of transportation in the future and as scary as a jet bike might be, people imagine that too. This is Norio Fujikawa’s concept jet bike and it looks quite plausible mostly because it is inspired on the design of modern day sporty two-wheeled vehicles (that doesn’t make it less scary, if you ask me!).

Norio Fujikawa : “Envisioning a jet powered flying bike powered by an alternative method of propulsion!” These are the words on which the concept is based and they sound quite visionary. As supposed, Japan will be leading the industry.

Triumph Speed Triple Carbon Fiber Limited Edition

Triumph Speed Triple Carbon Fiber Limited Edition

British motorcycle manufacturer Triumph upgrades their Speed Triple 1050 with a multitude of carbon fiber pieces and calls it a limited edition model. This exclusive naked motorcycle relies on the very same 1050cc inline-triple engine powering the standard Speed Triple with its 130 bhp while the Brembo brakes and Showa suspensions are also there.

The Speed Triple Carbon limited edition model additions are purely cosmetic so the only color matching the carbon fiber flyscreen, cowl, infill panels, heat shield and front fender was matt black. The handlebars have also been black painted and the mirrors were anodized.

Only 55 such bikes are available for the price of $11,800 so contacting your local dealer now would be an inspired move if you’re caught up by this unique model.

GP Motorsports built M1-replica out of R1

GP Motorsports built M1-replica out of R1

GP Motorsports builds motorcycle replicas with such accuracy that even the original designers would have troubles spotting the difference if there wasn’t for some minor details included willfully. Take this M1-replica that they’ve built out of a 2008 Yamaha R1 for example. The only details that set it apart from the original thing are the “R1” logo on the fairing and filler panels below the tank.

There isn’t much left of the original bike. In fact they only needed R1’s frame on which they started to add unique components such as the forks which have been taking straight off Carlos Checa’s 2003 GP bike. There is an Öhlins TTX shock and an R7 triple clamp, just to start your interest. Racefit have crafted the custom exhaust and Dymags provided the 16.5" carbon rims.

Featuring Superbike-spec, this replica costs approximately $65,000, but if customers can live without the racing engine and TTX suspensions, the price will be dramatically reduced to around $17,000 and you’ll get the same reaction from people with enormously less costs.

The pictures speak for themselves…literally!

200 hp Triumph Rocket III RR - a potential VMAX contender?

200 hp Triumph Rocket III RR - a potential VMAX contender?

The Italians from blog triumph che passione with the help of Pio have imagined a British power cruiser perfectly suitable to compete with the 2009 Yamaha VMAX. In their vision, the Triumph Rocket III RR also develops 200 horsepower and it is fitted with suspensions and brakes taken straight off the Daytona model and modified to match the cruiser.

All possible extra weight is eliminated and the bike reduced to its bare essence. An Arrow exhaust with titan silencers will be fitted as well as Brembo brakes with huge wave discs.

No doubt about it, these guys ca really work with their computers and create an exact result of their imagination, but we reckon that this is what the Triumph Rocket III RR will remain.

Honda VTR 250

Honda VTR 250

Until now, Honda built the VTR 250 as a Japan-only model, but the word is out that they plan to sell it in Europe as well starting with the 2009 model year. This is the first picture available of the new model year and it comes accompanied by serious suspicions in what concerns potential upgrades.

For instance, the engine is sure to remain the same 90-degree, liquid-cooled V-twin with 4-valves per cylinder, but will most likely get an improved Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI) system. This determines the airbox to be moved underneath the gas tank so that the bike would retain the overall slim appearance.

In what concerns the trellis frame, this is expected to remain the same as on the 2008 model year sold in Japan and so are the suspensions, wheels and brakes.

The instruments panel remains the same only in appearance because in essence digital is the main word. They also intend to make the naked bike practical so offering decent underseat storage space sure helps if intending to cut in the 250cc scooters slice of the Japanese market.

Colors available will be Silver, Red, Black, Blue and Yellow and the new bike is expected to make an entry in Europe by autumn.

Is this the most aerodynamic motorcycle ever or what?

The owner of this unusual motorcycle is most likely a Triumph Rocket III fan that couldn’t really afford the real thing, but with an innovative mind and a lot of work achieved his own interpretation of that name. This bodywork that would make any killer whale jealous does look like a Rocket, but it’s actually a retired drop tank (external disposable fuel tank) which wasn’t actually dropped during his career.

I don’t know where people get their hands on these things, but I love it despite the fact it has no purpose on this earth.

Harrison Ford rides a BMW

Harrison Ford has recently been spotted riding his BMW F800GS and it looks like he’s enjoying it a lot. Although not a notorious motorcyclist from Hollywood, Ford gives an important lesson of motorcycle safety as he wears the entire protective gear in a sunny day. The bike looks like brand new (or maybe it isn’t ridden that much as we all know how busy actors are) and the street tires show where Harrison Ford likes to ride most.

CR&S to build Café Racer Around S&S X-Wedge engine

The word is out that the Italians form Café Racers and Superbikes are undergoing a café racer project based on an approximately 2 liters big S&S X-Wedge engine. Performance is clearly what they aim for and the Marvic wheels, Brembo brakes as well as the large diameter Ceriani inverted fork also show that, but in a kind of American way considering the fact that this thing will weigh around 410 pounds dry.

Although not that revealing, these early images show the single tube backbone frame and single sided swingarm that will most likely end up on the bike.

Now this is a concept of which any builder in the United States would be proud of, but, according to the latest information we have, the industry’s tendency here is towards hybrid two-wheeled vehicles. Despite the fact that US builders carry on with their “routine”, aren’t we spotting a complete U-turn on both continents?

Kawasaki goes ECO2Logic

Kawasaki goes ECO2Logic

Kawasaki stands for green, just like Yamaha does for blue, Honda for red and Suzuki mostly for yellow, but that isn’t enough for Mother Nature and the stricter CO2 emission norms in Europe are showing Kawasaki the way to green engines as well. So Kawasaki developed what they like to call their ‘ECO2Logic’ technology and which is destined to those less than 100bhp bikes. Supposedly, the fuel-injection and exhaust systems will be tricked out in order to minimize emissions. The 2009 Kawasaki Z750 is the first bike in Kawasaki Europe’s lineup to turn greener.

The new technology blends perfectly in with the Kawasaki brand and if it turns out to be as effective as Kawasaki people expect, bigger and more powerful models will be fitted with it. Will the Z1000 be the leading figure then? We shall wait and see.

Big Dog Wolf - 2009 V-Twin Bike of the Year

Big Dog Motorcycles, the leading manufacturer of high-performance, high style motorcycles, won the 2009 V-Twin Bike of the Year award with their all-new Wolf model at the 9th annual V-Twin Expo, the industry’s largest trade show, held February 7-9 in Cincinnati.

Having also won the coveted prize last year with the 2008 Pitbull model, the award marks the second year in a row the company has received the industry’s high honors. Also, Big Dog Motorcycles won the V-Twin bike of the Year awards in 2005 with the Bulldog and in 2006 with the K-9 chopper.

Editors at Paisano Publications, a worldwide diversified media company offering a wide variety of motorcycle magazines, were impressed by Wolf’s distinct, striking seamless design ; drive side brake; radical 45-degree rake and 9½-long stance; exclusive tri-cam 121 c.i. engine; and amazing maneuverability and riding capabilities.

“It’s an honor to receive this very significant award from editors of such nationally-renowned magazines,” commented Sheldon Coleman, company founder and CEO, who accepted the award. “It speaks loudly about the bike’s benchmark styling along with its unmatched ride and handling.”

“And it also reflects the hard work and dedication of all those involved in creating this game-changing pro-street: Sales, marketing, engineering, purchasing, dealers, and suppliers. Their talents and efforts never been more evident than in this incredible new cruiser,” Coleman continued.

All that there is left to say is Congratulations and good luck next year!

2010 Triumph Daytona rendering

2010 Triumph Daytona rendering

The English site Performance Bikes has created the latest hypothesis – a very accurate one, if you allow – regarding the 2010 Triumph Daytona 1050. Basing on the fact that Triumph will use the three-cylinder engine currently powering the Speed Triple and Tiger models, they designed basically a sharper Daytona 650 on steroids.

Indeed, the 2010 Triumph Daytona 1050 is expected to look much like his middleweight brother and the rendering, although very realistic, is a little exaggerated. For instance, those Audi-like headlights do look good, but would never light the bike’s way into the night while the passenger seat is rather narrow, but apart from that it shouts out loud the Triumph name.

With a single-sided swingarm –and the implicit Speed Triple wheel –, narrow body and two beautiful colors, this is one very good overall image of what Triumph will be adding to their lineup in 2010.

Motobecane Motivo electric urban motorcycle

Distinguishing in the electric bikes invasion is the Motobecane Motivo electric motorbike destined for urban exploitation in style. An innovative blending of consecrated materials with modern technology, the Motivo features a leather suitcase design for the battery pack feeding the two electric motors, one in each wheel. There are also walnut wood elements such as the grips, mirror and headlight housing giving it a unique classy look.

As practical as it is good looking, the suitcase – which is positioned where the gas tank and engine would normally be on a regular motorcycle – features a quick grab handle and can be easily taken indoors and recharged. This solves the biggest complain related to electric vehicles and it is all the work of Spanish designer Miguel Ángel Iranzo Sánchez.

The sidestand is actually pretty unique itself and the cork saddle offers room for the rider only as the Motobecane Motivo was supposed to end up as simple as it is ingenious.

“After years of designing electric motorcycles we’re still innovating to go faster and further. The 09 Zero X is another evolutionary leap forward. We’ve made several key changes based on suggestions from both pro riders and our current customers,” said Neal Saiki, inventor and founder of Zero Motorcycles. “We are definitely the leader in electric motorcycle technology and we intend to remain out front.”

The new model year electric bike incorporates mostly chassis upgrades (frame, suspension, brakes and wheels) as the powerplant was sorted out ever since the groundbreaking ’08 entry.

Highly performing and zero polluting, the Zero X is powered by a 23 horsepower electric motor and features a lithium-ion power pack that fully charges in approximately two hours. The aluminum frame is actually a very advanced unit as well so overall the bike ends up weighing 151 pounds.

Zero X’s performances are comparable to the ones of modern day 250cc four-stroke dirt bikes and the bike is destined to challenging terrains. Still, it can be fitted with a street legal kit and hit the streets.

Kawasaki Vulcan 900 Custom Special Edition

The launch of the all-new Harley-Davidson 883 Iron and Buell XB9SX is most likely to generate a wave of Japanese similar models and Kawasaki has already made the first step with the Vulcan 900 Custom Special Edition. Facile, but hardcore, the transformation leads to a radical custom that is currently destined to Europe for a competitive price of €8000 (the equivalent of $10.400).

The overall design is more aggressive with a major contribution coming from the matte-black painted engine, exhaust and air filter. This contrasts with the red engine heads as well as with the orange and white tribal schemes.

We’re anxious to see what the rest of the Japanese crowd will come up with.

L-R-G performed their “routine” on the 2009 Suzuki Gladius and, strangely, their goal wasn’t speed, but off-road performance. By modifying the swingarm, adding the Leo Vince exhaust, a pair of standard-spoked Excel wheels and RM-Z front end, complete with MX fender and mudguards, the small commuter was transformed into a veritable supermoto. The standard seat and license hanger have been stripped down in order to obtain a sleeker design.

The tricked-out Gladius gets a Green and White paint scheme while the brake calipers and transmission cover are gold painted, just like on last year’s L-R-G Suzuki Hayabusa.

While we’re so caught up by this bike, we can’t help wondering if Suzuki will start thinking about an entry-level alternative for the continuously growing supermoto market.

Unveiled: Mission One EV - World’s Fastest Production Electric Sportbike

Unveiled: Mission One EV - World’s Fastest Production Electric Sportbike

150 mph, 150-mile-range all-electric sport bike makes an industry-shaking entry at TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design). The company behind this incredible project is called Mission Motors and it is on everyone’s lips after making the announcement that their Mission One super bike will debut at the TTXGP on June 12th.

Designed by Yves Béhar, the revolutionary motorcycle is powered by a liquid-cooled, 3 phase AC Inducted motor that develops 100 lb-ft at zero revolutions per minute. This translates into the amazing performance figures, but also into a $68,995 price tag for the first 50 Limited Edition 2010 models produced. Also, a less financially demanding Mission One model is expected to be announced this summer.

What the available information on the all-new electric sport bike doesn’t reveal is the weight. And with a High Energy Lithium-Ion with Integrated Safety Battery Pack, the bike is expected to be pretty heavy. But a long as we hear about the 150 mph top speed, we’re more than excited about this innovative motorcycle.

Before receiving any tune ups, Pamela Anderson was Suzuki girl…or at least that’ what these pictures unveil. What a great way to start a prolific showbiz career! Too bad that time showed that tuning should apply only to cars and motorcycle, not women.

A singing motorcycle?

A singing motorcycle?

Nowadays, art is widely interpreted and motorcycles have been singing ever since a motor was mounted on a bicycle frame, but from there to this is a very long way.

The creator of the Guitar Motorcycle is called Ray Nelson and the pictures were taken at a car parade (strange, I know), but that’s really all we could find about the intriguing looking thing. From what we can see, it looks like a Kawasaki 750 LTD from the 1980s, but does it go or is it just for expositions? Most likely it runs smoothly and goes like a devil although I’m not sure about the riding position. A dragster is definitely more comfortable than that!

The headlight, mirrors, taillight and signal light are all indicating that this unique creation is street legal (it even has a number plate on so it makes it clear) even though I’ve got a feel it only travels in that trolley.

So the next time you crash your bike, don’t bother to look for every single piece of the cracked fairing, but for a good carpenter.

It’s a fact! The 2009 BMW S1000RR will feature ABS and traction control

It’s a fact! The 2009 BMW S1000RR will feature ABS and traction control

BMW has just made public the much awaited press release regarding the 2009 S1000RR, their all-new Superbike motorcycle that will hit Germany’s dealerships this summer. They talk about the bike having a 999cc inline four engine, weighing 183 kg (dry) and costing €15,150 ($19,438), but as interesting as it might sound, this isn’t the best of it. The bike will actually feature ABS brakes and traction control so we’re expecting excellent test results from it.

Very hi-tech, the ABS system has four modes from which the rider will be able to choose depending on the level of sensitivity that he seeks.

Still, the first thing that strikes you is the aggressive design and amazing fit and finish. Please don’t tell me it looks much like an Aprilia RSV4 from the front!

Press release (translated from German) after the jump.

2009 Yamaha YZR-M1 runs out of secrets

2009 Yamaha YZR-M1 runs out of secrets

For 2009, the Yamaha YZR-M1 seems to have followed a relatively natural evolution based on the ‘why change it if it ain’t broken’ concept, Fiat Yamaha Team being more worried of what the competition is going to come up with as the winter’s ending is always a tense time of the year.

Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo will be working with a mind blowing power to weight ratio in 2009 and they seem pretty enthusiastic about their new bikes in the launch video that Yamaha-Motor-Europe has just released.

The funny thing in the Specs is that they don’t forget to mention ‘over’ and ‘in excess’ behind the horsepower and top speed figures.

Press release after the jump.
