MV Agusta F4 gets unique fairing

MV Agusta F4 gets unique fairing

MV Agusta hasn’t yet started to inspire their F4’s fairing on UFOs, but their users have and this is a very successful design that was spotted at the 2008 Asama Meeting in Japan.

The modifications are as pointless as they are obvious, but I believe that they do give a new meaning to the saying ‘razor sharp fairing’. Still, that guy looks like being pregnant with the gas tank = Not Cool!

Japanese scooters under hardcore treatment

Japanese scooters under hardcore treatment

Heavily modified scooters have always drifted away from their original purpose, but none look more pointless than these ones. Seriously lengthened, widened and fitted with big and loud aftermarket pipes, they give a whole new meaning to the word extravagant and they belong to Japanese teenagers.

Japan has done a lot both for the auto and moto industry, but I have a hunch that this isn’t going to bring any contribution whatsoever as the 250cc scooters look impossible to be actually ridden. Imagine passing over a speed bump with a $37,000 scooter…and then the repair bill.

They do look nice, but belong in the photo studios.

KTM 690 Duke

The name KTM and model name Duke simply don’t go well together without the ‘690’ deduction from cylinder capacity so in 2009, the middleweight streetfighter carries on being present in the Austrian manufacturer’s lineup and stands for the same qualities as it did in the past – all-around maneuverability, performance and, of course, good looks. The news here is that we recently grabbed the opportunity to test ride the bike and we simply can’t get over it.

Casey Stoner easily won the first MotoGP race of 2009 after leading the Monday night race from start to finish. The Australian pilot ended the race on the Losail International Circuit with seven seconds earlier than the second arrived, Valentino Rossi, managing so to impose himself as the third consecutive winner of the season-opener in Qatar. Third place goes to Jorge Lorenzo.

BMW Motorrad is in the process of gathering ideas for building new exciting motorcycles that would wear their emblem in the future. The best part about it is that they want your ideas and, apart from bringing a contribution to the motorcycle industry evolution, there are material prizes as well, the biggest being 2000 Euros.

All that an innovative mind has to know is in this small questionnaire that BMW put together:

Ever since the 2008 launch of their all-new Superbike, a premiere for the Austrian brand, KTM has worked to develop the now notorious RC8 model into a more powerful, slightly lighter and sharper cornering motorcycle, improving so both the times around the track and the appreciation among street riders. So while carrying on producing the Standard RC8 as a 2009 model year, KTM also puts on sale the RC8 R model, a nightmare for all competitors out there, be them Japanese or European.

The machine of a dream: MotoMorphic JaFM

The machine of a dream: MotoMorphic JaFM

The MotoMorphic JaFM#1 is the unique creation of Victor Komunytsky and Jim Davis, the proud ex-owners of a small repair shop and a small motorcycle selling business. We are saying “ex” because the two had to sell their business in order to fully concentrate on finishing their dream machine.

Taking a closer look at this motorcycle, we realize that the two builders don’t have bad taste at all. In fact, this thing is built on a custom chassis made of 6061-T6 tubing and CNC machined billet 6061 with incorporated gas tank. The swingarm is made in-house as well while the fork was provided by Ohlins, the monoshock by Penske and the brakes are fancy Brembo units. What actually sets this bike apart from anything else we’ve seen before are definitely the outrageously big wheels. Is there any point in mentioning that the base motorcycle (or better yet, donor bike) is an Aprilia Falco?

The guys at MotoMorphic also took the time to properly promote their creation so here is some action footage of the bike.

Kawasaki Vulcan 900

The 2009 Kawasaki Vulcan 900 model range takes the best from the world of cruisers and adjusts it to match the size, experience and demands of riders who are just starting out. Each of the three models, Classic, Classic LT and Custom are set to offer a different kind of riding experience and the new Special Edition version derived from the Custom model follows the trend towards Dark Custom motorcycles that Harley-Davidson started.

MotoTerminators spotted at NY Auto Show

Although dedicated to cars, the New York Auto Show was the proper environment in which Confederate Motor Company to exhibit three of their most recent creations that are also know as the indestructible bikes from Terminator 4. Named Fighter, Hellcat and Wraith, these bikes do look like complicated pieces of engineering, but not quite like having minds of their own or being that hard to destroy. And if it is to take in consideration the Company’s fame for providing pretty unreliable bikes, I say stick to the movie.

One of the most attractive concepts we’ve seen lately is the Honda CBR600RR Repsol Carbon published at deviantart by TheUncle. Middleweight supersport models rarely benefit of such treatments so it’s good to see that someone thought at the slightly discriminated 600cc CBR. Also, there are two other bikes labeled as ‘Honda CBR600RR Concept Street Version’ and ‘Honda CBR600RR Concept Street Blu’, but those two look like a Kawasaki and a Suzuki also prepped up for the track.

German tuners ‘Wunderlich’ recently performed a radical transformation on a 2009 BMW K1300R with incredible results. In fact, I would call this a better candidate for the MotoTerminator title than the Confederate models that were created with robotics in mind.

The Wunderlich BMW K1300R is a sophisticated motorcycle robot send back in time to change the life of one lucky rider. Upgrading the bike from all points of view with aftermarket units such as the titanium sports exhaust, lightweight wheels, wave-style discs, flat sports bars, uprated suspensions and a radical headlight cluster, the German tuning experts managed to make this thing really their own…and add an extra $9,000 on top of the Beamer’s original price.

Japan gets Ducati 1098R Puma Limited Edition

The 1098R Puma Edition is the result of Ducati winning the 2008 Superbike World Championship and renewing their successful partnership with Puma. Built only for Japan in a limited number of ten units, the motorcycles distinguish with a white Puma logo on the side fairing and a special number stamped on the upper stem of the fork. This gets the price up to as much as 35,000 euros and pretty much excludes the regular Ducati buyer from the target public. But because these things were most likely immediately sold back in December when released, the only thing for us remaining to do is signal the existence of this model and eventually outrage by how a few grams of paint and a small stamped plate can have that much of an influence on the price.

After releasing the Eliminator 125 from its duties, Kawasaki brings it back for 2009 as the entry level market share has lately become more and more demanding as a result of the economic situation affecting every single aspect of life and directing commuters towards cheap and fuel efficient two-wheeled products. The bike had paved road towards conquering this segment as the Eliminator name is big part of Kawi’s history so what we’re witnessing here is an opportunity grabbed without second thoughts.

The competition is exclusively addressed to alternative propulsion technologies and the current most important contender of the E1pc is the outstanding Mission One, but Michael Czysz claims that his bike will be clearly superior and, most importantly, significantly less expensive.

The last weekend saw Zero Motorcycles undergoing the 24 Hours of Electricross competition which ended up setting two Guinness World Records, one for the furthest distance traveled in 24 hours on an all-electric off-road motorcycle (500 miles) and the other for the largest electric motorcycle race (50 competitors racing for 10 teams).

Satisfied with the results, founder of Zero Motorcycles and organizer of the race, Neal Saiki said that "this event proved that electric technology can endure the same level of competition as their gas-powered counterparts, however, the power resources to compete are drastically different. The total cost to power all 10 motorcycles for 24 hours was approximately $100,"

Here’s a video from the first international endurance competition for off-road electric motorcycles won by team HotChalks MDV.

Kawasaki Vulcan 2000

There’s nothing like riding a large displacement cruiser and when it comes to this, the Kawasaki Vulcan 2000 is not only one of the best representatives of its class, but also the one featuring the biggest bore and stroke. So for 2009, the massive Vulcan enhances the visual and makes sure that the engine is delivering power even smoother than before.

And it’s not just the simple Vulcan 2000 which distinguishes through these references, but the Vulcan 2000 Classic and Vulcan 2000 Classic LT too, so we’re talking about an entire lineup here. Is it just me or the competition is seriously stiffening up?

Concept Motorcycle that Harley-Davidson will never consider producing

Concept Motorcycle that Harley-Davidson will never consider producing

It finally happened! Someone thought at combining the looks of a Harley-Davidson motorcycle with an electric motor and the result is definitely something that most fans of the American builder could enjoy as their future bad boy toy. But how does the name Harley-Davidson even stand next to words such as electric motor, green technology and so on? French designer Nicolas Petit is the man that made it possible and although the intention was to design the electric cruiser in the Milwaukee style, the first thing that prospects will ask for is the V-twin engine powering all present Harley-Davidson models and the only electric thing fitted on those is the starter. So that’s where the title comes from.

Called the Trunk, this concept bike is definitely appealing and the motor, which is enclosed in a rounded case, isn’t that bad either. The only problem is that the oddly named thing will never sound, vibrate and feel like a veritable Harley-Davidson motorcycle and that’s in contradiction with all that this manufacturer is all about.

Throughout history, Harley-Davidson proved it has the power adapt, but an electric motor will only power the company on its big cloud reserved in Heaven. Or is that just me?

Recently, we did a post about the “Lamborghini Motorcycle Concept” and the new pics that we’ve only now come across are just too good to ignore so here they are.

A tribute to Nicolas Tesla and Ferrucio Lamborghini, this hubless chopper designed by Flavio Adriani is inspired by the Lamborghini Countach, a car that takes your breath away. This two-wheeler isn’t far from doing that either, if it is to mention the personal opinion here.

2009 Yamaha MT-01 SP belongs to the European market

European fans of the Yamaha MT-01 are offered a 2009 limited edition version called SP in the manufacturer’s attempt to enhance the riding experience while also making the bike more attractive. So while the engine remains the same 1,670cc V-twin developing 90 horsepower at 4,750rpm and 150Nm of torque at 3,750rpm, the fork is now a fancy 43mm USD Öhlins unit and the rear shock an adjustable Öhlins one. These, together with the 17-inch wheels now featuring Pirelli Diablo Rosso tires – 120/70 front and 190/50 rear – are, according to Yamaha, supposed to offer ‘a more intense experience of ‘Kodo,’. Synthesizing, this means more heart beats per second.

Honda has never even considered building a six-cylinder motorcycle engine to power their late 1970 CBX models, but owners have and this is the best they came up with. Apparently a regular 1979 Honda CBX, but actually being powered by a six-cylinder motor, this bike reflects the fact that manufacturers can fit an enormous engine on virtually any motorcycle and enjoy a great success. I’m counting the exhaust pipes on this thing over and over again and can’t believe how…regular it looks.

There’s nothing like relying on a motorcycle that offers a variety of riding (both style and terrain) possibilities and the Kawasaki KLR 650 sure fits that description as it is by now a consecrated performer both on and off the road, managing to meet different riding demands as an every day bike as well as a weekend travel one. 2009 BMW K1300R by AC Schnitzer

One of Germany’s most notorious tuners, AC Schnitzer, recently finished work on the all-new BMW K1300R and– by what this picture reveals – they enhanced the model’s aggressive looks without neglecting performance either.

The upgrades consist in: lighter AC Schnitzer ACS forged alloy wheels, a Superbike bar conversion package, AC Schnitzer Stealth silencer with EC approval and removable DB Killer, high performance manifold, belly pan, cockpit and lamp trim as well as an AC Schnitzer pillion cover. Standard clutch and brake levers are replaced by AC’s more resistant and also adjustable units made of aeronautical aluminum.

AC Schnitzer hasn’t yet announced the price of the impressive transformation, but I don’t know why I have a hunch that you don’t really want to find that out, but simply look at the bike and be impressed by the transformation.
