The Blastolene Hemi-powered trike would make any dragster jealous

The Blastolene Hemi-powered trike would make any dragster jealous

Outrageous is THE way to go nowadays if willing to stand out as a builder and Blastolene makes an excellent demonstration with their latest creation, a trike powered by an immense Hemi V8 engine. Displayed at the Grand National Roadster Show, this three-wheeler founded hard to pass unnoticed, not only because of the motor that usually powers hot rods and/or dragsters, but also because of the unusual dimensions (in other words, it is damn long) and the amazing fit and finish despite the fact of not even being painted.

The innovative builder masks the exhaust pipes with a pair of wings welded on the engine heads while the claw-like front swingarm suspension is definitely one of a kind. We don’t know how much gas will go into that tank, but it sure looks like it can store plenty. This doesn’t leave too much room for the rider – not to mention the passenger – and I’ve got a feeling that it doesn’t handle that easy either. But does it need to? As long I can remember, drag tracks have been straight as an arrow and, apparently, this is where the Blastolene Hemi-powered trike belongs. Can’t wait to see this monster moving!

It’s not always the motorcyclist’s fault!

It’s not always the motorcyclist’s fault!

The victims of motorcycle crashes happen to also be the victims of insurance companies and it must come to an end once and for all. Knowing your rights means acting in your benefit when the unfortunate event takes place so riders shouldn’t simply thank God they’re alive, but stick to their odds, fight back and turn to professionals if necessary.

The Sharp Law Firm in Austin, Texas specializes in getting the best out of the worst and that is what most motorcycle riders need when somebody else causes an accident and tries to get away with it by using lame excuses.

The latest Dark Custom of the series shares most features with its larger sibling, the Nightster 1200, but not the engine and therefore not the price. Everything from the slammed suspension to the side-mounted license plate holder is there, but the most important unit – the V-twin engine – displaces 883ccs while the price starts at $7,899.

MCN spotted Ducati’s latest adventure touring motorcycle while it was being tested and they captured some accurate images which confirm our suspicions related to the latest creation of the Bologna house.

Aimed to replace the Multistrada model, the bike is built around the water-cooled 1099cc V-twin engine of the Ducati Streetfighter. The

eBay find of the day: WWII Military Motorcycle cargo trailer

eBay find of the day: WWII Military Motorcycle cargo trailer

Owners of URAL, DNEPR and BMW motorcycles produced during WWII are offered the possibility to complete the authentic look of one lucky motorcycle by acquiring a cargo trailer which would have been a must during WWII. The trailer weighs only 156 lbs when empty, but due to the permissive dimensions (52 in. long, 28 in. wide and 12 in. deep), carrying capacity is an impressive 800 lbs. No wonder the war was that destructive as bikes were clearly used for more than “recognition purposes”. Wheels measure 19 in. in diameter and ground clearance…well, that’s more than obvious.

The seller mentions that the trailer features tonneau cover, mounting for the bike, and parking brake and it is in very good condition, especially now that it was repainted. They can even add lights to it and make it street legal if the buyer asks so. Now that’s great news if planning to take this at motorcycle parades.

Asking price is $1,599, but I’m sure that the lights will add on to that.

Honda CBR600RR Quad by WesllCorp

WesllCorp have come up with a four wheel kit for motorcycles in an attempt to improve performance and implicit lap times without cutting in the pleasure that only two wheels can offer. They call it Wesll Suspension and it can be mounted both on street and off-road motorcycles. And not just any motorcycles. We’re talking about models such as the Honda CBR600RR (our favorite), Suzuki GSX-R1000 and Kawasaki ZX-10R, just to mention a few.

Featuring a maximum of 28 inches of travel, the unusual kit will transform any motorcycle into a quad. The four tires offer better grip which results into the ability to brake later before a corner and accelerate faster out of it.

Here’s a short demonstration video of the system mounted on a CBR600RR motorcycle.

Victory unveils eye-catching concept

Day one of the New York Motorcycle Show brought the debut of a number of expected motorcycles and a variety of concepts. The most eye-catching of these last is the Victory CORE, a concept which represents the quintessence of a motorcycle as designers and engineers made sure that one piece would do the job of five. For example, the sand cast aluminum frame acts as a steering head, engine mount, gas tank and airbox (ok, that’s only four) so the complexity of this bike is what impresses.

Behind this innovative creation sits the Victory Freedom 106-ci V-Twin with and six-speed overdrive transmission. Although the engine and gearbox are already used on production Victory models, this bike isn’t heading for production – at least not in this form – due to a wooden seat and open exhausts, but Victory doesn’t really plan that. Their goal was to show towards what they’re heading and we reckon they made their point.

The Victory CORE is the work of Victory Motorcycles Industrial Design team so let’s hear them out!

Vespa Daniela: the wooden scooter

Vespa Daniela: the wooden scooter

A Portuguese carpenter named Carlos Alberto was thinking about popularizing his skills when he remembered about the old Vespa scooter forgotten in the garage. Hmmm, what would be the result of that? I guess the images speak for themselves.

All that is left for us to mention is that the engine, suspensions and wheels are still made out of metal. The rest is just poetry to our eyes.

Much better than any commercial, the scooter even got a new name – Vespa Daniela – as it is most likely dedicated to Carlos’s daughter.

Apparently, this isn’t our man’s first wooden two-wheeled creation as we also found a full-size motorcycle called Mota on its website.

OCC guys built two-wheeled Stealth Bomber

OCC guys built two-wheeled Stealth Bomber

If you’re wondering at what the Orange County Choppers crew has been working lately, this strange looking motorcycle is the most appropriate answer. The famous choppers builder was commissioned to build a B-2 bomber-themed motorcycle for the celebration of 20 years from the first flight of the B-2 Spirit stealth bomber.

On July 17, 1989, the famous war machine had lifted from the ground for the very first time so Northrop Grumman, the Air Force’s B-2 prime contractor, and the U.S. Air Force will celebrate the event on July 17, 2009 in Palmdale, Calif. And guess who’s going to be the life of the party?

Named “The Spirit of Innovation”, the latest OCC creation commemorates the date of that first flight with the 0789 “tail number”. But that’s not the only detail that links it to the Stealth Bomber. The bike’s front cowling and gas tank are inspired by B-2’s cockpit and fuselage. Notice the sized look? That’s supposed to resemble the color of the Stealth too. The wheels feature the Air Force star and the “aft deck” of the bike is actually made from a scrap piece of titanium used for the original B-2 aft deck.

To me it looks like a castaway dolphin and the only way that they can prove me wrong is if the headlights, respectively B-2’s windshields, actually work. If not…

V8-powered Ducati project

V8-powered Ducati project

Dieter Hartmann-Wirthwein is a German motorcycle enthusiast who also enjoys creating unusual motorcycles. Last summer created a unique 125cc four-cylinder engine and now he finally came up to the conclusion that bigger is better and starts yet another unique project, a V8-powered Ducati.

The author of such projects is certainly an ingenious mechanic and a very patient man, but we are supposed to be proven that a V8 engine powering a two-wheeled vehicle doesn’t necessarily mean Boss Hoss. Our German took a 1992 Ducati 900 SS and seriously modified the engine in order to end up with eight cylinders instead of two and a cylinder capacity of 868cc.

The project is still undergoing, but the German already found a name for it, Ducati-Elenore. The little information posted on the Dieter’s website is the fact that the engine will have a 56mm bore and 43mm stroke and there will be two valves (27mm admission and 23 mm exhaust) for each cylinder.

Stay tuned to find out more about this project as soon as we have more information.

Motorcycle museum closes down

Motorcycle museum closes down

A few years ago, riding through Ontario meant visiting Niagara Falls and get a good history lesson at the Classic Iron Motorcycle Museum. The motorcycles exposed there dated back to early 1990’s and the incursion in the past that they offered surely didn’t heart anyone. But, for no apparent reason, the Classic Iron Motorcycle Museum has now closed together with their website. This means restricting passionate people from getting a glimpse of some rare pieces of machineries such as the:

1916 Harley Davidson

1923 Indian Scout

1929 Sunbeam 500 cc Racer

1932 Harley Davidson RL

1937 BSA Empire Star

1937 Knucklehead

1940 Harley Davidson UL

1942 WLC Canadian Military

1951 Ariel Square Four

1952 Matchless GL3

1953 Triumph TR6 Trophy

1956 Panhead with Sidecar

1966 BMW R27

Among the museum’s attractions, probably the greatest were Easyrider’s “Captain America” & “Billy Bike” Replicas. They also had a 1980 Custom built Chrome & Gold Shovelhead so you can’t say that they were lacking visitors.

So the logical question here is why did they close it? Furthermore, why did they close it just when I plan to fly there?

Here’s an address and phone in case you are a very powerful man and happen to like motorcycles.

US sees the arrival of the 2009 Aprilia SMV 750 Dorsoduro

It is now official! The 2009 Aprilia SMV 750 Dorsoduro will line up to the SXV550 and conquer together the American market. We wouldn’t conceive otherwise as ever since Dorsoduro’s presentation, the US public went nuts.

And if you wonder why, the answer is hidden in the Aprilia’s self-developed 750cc liquid-cooled V-Twin engine that is capable of 92-horsepower. Now that’s more than decent for a twin-cylinder engine and the bike has no problems in going against the Ducati Hypermotard which’s engine displaces 1100ccs.

Looking like that and being backed up by 43mm inverted forks holding wave-shaped disc brakes clamped by radial calipers, the Dorsoduro simply invites riders to have an aggressive attitude towards it.

Harley-Davidson "Ride Free" program

Harley-Davidson Ride Free program

Starting from the idea that a guarantee should mean something, Harley-Davidson uses the power of example and launches a program called Ride Free through which they encourage riders to buy the Sportster model.

More precisely, those who buy a ’08 or ’09 Sportster (excluding XR1200) from a participating dealer until March 31, 2009 are offered the opportunity to ride it for up to one full year and then trade it for a new Dyna, Softail, VRSC or Toruing model and receive the original MSRP value of their Sportster motorcycles.

Also, those who already own a ’07, ’08 or ’09 Sportster can trade it until March 31 and have the same benefits.

Although that might seem like one great opportunity (which it actually is), it is recommended that you take in consideration the fact that the economy is going through a tough period and there will be more and more such offers. Still, in March the weather starts being just good for riding so I bet you won’t abstain yourself.

Surprisingly, Honda won’t bring the best of each lineup, but an economical cruiser – the Shadow Classic 400 – as well as a scooter – the Forza X. Still, they show off with the Black and White 2009 CBR 1000RR so that evens up the scale pretty nicely.

Hodge Hawk trike concept uses Honda RC51 engine

Hodge Hawk trike concept uses Honda RC51 engine

We barely got time to realize that another year has passed by and there’s another concept trike showing us how it may very likely be the thing we’ll ride or better said drive in the future. But if it’s still here, at least let’s welcome it as should. Ladies and gentleman, I present to you the Hawk!

The design belongs to 22-year-old Alex Hodge, a designer based in New Zeeland. The young man has imagined the trike of the future as a machine powered preferably by a powerful motorcycle engine, but which would protect the user with a cockpit-like covering that swings away to allow the entry and exit to and from the vehicle.

With an alloy chassis and 19-inch alloy wheels, we already know that the thing would be light and stable, but how does it do in the performance department? Well, it seems that this designer also thinks at fuel consumption so he visualizes Hawk concept as being powered by the 999cc V-Twin engine “borrowed” from the Honda RC51 motorcycle. Now that’s pretty good considering that the specific powerplant meets a great balance between power – 120 horses – and fuel consumption which depends on how much the trike will actually weigh.

We have to admit that it looks radical, but I can’t see why he didn’t sketch a fully-equipped pilot in it. After all, what’s the point of all that transparency if you can’t be spotted when riding in style? And don’t come to me with that “view” stuff because you can see the view as you’re watching where you’re going.

Honda reveals patent images of their Fury

Honda “leaks” the official design drawings of the Fury before the much-awaited New York motorcycle show in January and no surprises. We must say that despite speculations that the Fury will send Harley-Davidson Rocker and Yamaha Rider designers and engineers back to the drawing boards, Honda’s late arrival simply uses the a fuel-injected version of the 1312cc water-cooled V-Twin on the VTX1300.

With no hybrid drive systems, no automatic gearboxes and zero chances for an all-new engine, the Honda Fury will simply line up to the tendencies and not redefine them. Still, I won’t argue with those who say it looks good, because it does.
